Our Story
Mapori Safaris is not just a company.
It’s the story of a love that began in Africa—and never
really left.
We’re a wife-and-husband team whose journey started
in Zimbabwe in 2013, where two paths crossed and
met under African skies. Since that day, our
connection—to each other and to the continent—has
only deepened.
In 2017, after our honeymoon in Uganda, we created
Mapori Safaris as a quiet passion project. It began
with helping friends and family experience the magic
we had found—trekking through Bwindi’s misty forests,
hearing lions roar on the plains of the Mara, and
sipping sundowners by the Nile.
What started with heart grew with purpose.
Today, Mapori Safaris has become something more:
A boutique travel company dedicated to curating
soulful, story-rich journeys through East Africa—
designed for those who don’t just want to see the wild,
but to feel it.
What does Mapori mean?
In Swahili, mapori means “the wild places.”
And that’s exactly where we aim to take you—not just physically, but emotionally. We believe safaris should be more than checklists and game drives.
They should be transformational experiences—where silence matters, stories unfold, and nature becomes personal.
